Turkish director Ceyda Torun returns to Istanbul where he grew up during the early 80s to revisit the city's most famous residents: its street cats. The result is KEDi, a heartwarming documentary about the hundreds of thousands of stray felines that roam the metropolis freely. They are such a big part of Turkish culture that when former US president Barack Obama visited Istanbul, part of his tour included a stop at the Hagia Sophia to visit its famous cat.

Torun and his crew devised special "cat-meras" that allowed them to follow their four-legged subjects into dark alleys and deserted basements to capture the antics of these felines and the way they wander in and out of people's lives.

KEDi screens exclusively at The Projector from June 15.
