Renowned Singapore designer and artist Benny Ong has created a collection of hand-woven art titled Women.Shoes. Freedom, exploring the traditional and modern role of women, using traditional weaving materials juxtaposed with modern imagery. In support of the Breast Cancer Foundation's work to support those with the disease, proceeds from the sale of the piece, The Sisters Soong I, will be donated to the foundation. Commissioned in memory of the emancipation of Chinese women bound by shoes since young, the work represents their freedom from these shoes. It also seeks to pay homage to their strength and resilience, much like the breast cancer survivors of today. The exhibition is on till April 7 at the UOB Art Gallery, lobby of UOB Plaza 1.
