IN 2013, JIAN Yang became a viral sensation when Reuters, Huffington Post and Daily Mail wrote about his massive collection of dolls, which has doubled since then to a staggering 12,000. He currently holds the title as the world's largest male collector of Barbie dolls.
But, not content with that title, Yang attracted another round of Internet attention when he started making exquisite doll dresses out of toilet paper in 2017. He posted photos of them on his Instagram account jianyang1979 and drew over 2,000 likes for some. Soon, journalists were emailing him again, including Vogue Italia which described the dresses as ''spettacolare'' (spectacular).
What began as a need to relieve the boredom of being alone in a hotel room has now culminated in a limited-edition 144-page hardcover book published by Marshall Cavendish, cheekily titled #flushablefashion. Yang says: ''I turn 40 in a couple of months' time, so publishing a book is a nice milestone.''
