Attached to our urban jungle

EVERYBODY has different memories of landscapes from their childhoods and artist Guo Yixiu is no different: she remembers the old HDB block at Lorong Ah Soo where she used to live in as a kid.

Except it has now been repainted and looks nothing like it used to, which leads the 26-year-old to state: "I grew up in this artificial landscape in Singapore, rather than say around mountains or rivers. I realised that I'm actually nostalgic towards consumer-based products or objects, or a landscape that is actually artificial."

This train of thought is what inspired three of her latest bodies of work - two sets of photographic paintings and an on-site installation - that are currently on display at the OCBC Art Space in an exhibition titled Artificial Love. The photographic paintings are available from S$4,000 to S$7,000, while the installation costs S$15,000.
