He didn't know it then, but his first set of wheels was a harbinger of his future career path.

Ricky Tay's very first car nearly four decades ago was a classic Volkswagen Beetle.

Today, Mr Tay, 60, is the managing director of Volkswagen Group Singapore, the direct dealership of the German giant.
