Designer collaborations
New ideas abound when creativity meets familiar brands
THEY say 2 heads are better than 1, and this cannot be more true when 2 or more brands come together. Take, for example, the partnership between Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Singapore fashion house Charles & Keith. Sustainability is the driver behind this collaboration, but along the way, consumers get to snap up limited editions of wallets and bags.
Creative director Rafiq Mohamad, who is more familiar with branding and design for many of Singapore’s hip eateries, recently found himself working with furniture store Journey East for its new collection of rugs. He took on the role of curating designers to design the carpets. “Neither the designers nor myself have ever designed rugs, but this collaboration gave us a new platform to showcase home-grown designs,” he says.
