Dishing the dirt on a maverick's life
PAUL Raymond was a notorious purveyor of seedy strip clubs and soft porn in London's Soho district, so The Look of Love - a biopic about his business successes and lifestyle excesses - would appear to be a bit of a misnomer.
But he was also a doting father to his daughter Debbie - shockingly indulgent to the point of partying together and even providing cocaine for her to snort in the delivery room during childbirth, so the title might apply to his sadly misguided sense of love and devotion.
Raymond's relationship with his daughter lies at the core of this film, directed by Michael Winterbottom and written by Matt Greenhalgh. Their story unfolds in flashback, told from Raymond's point of view after he returns home from Debbie's fun…
