A Better Show at SIHH
Luxury watch brands still have the winning touch despite uncertain economic times, Chuang Peck Ming discovers at SIHH, the first major luxury watch fair of the year.
Sluggish sales in the past year saw luxury watch brands - virtually all Swiss - ramping up their game at the 2017 Salon International De La Haute Horlogerie watch fair in January.
For a start, more brands were present in Geneva for the week-long showcase of new timepieces and watch trends - there were 30 this year, compared to 24 in 2016. And for the first time since its launch in 1991, the fair - once limited to buyers and journalists - opened its doors to the public on the last day, providing added impetus for the brands to do better.
