Finding the 'enlightened being' within

THE meaning of life, the universe and everything is an ongoing quest, which for most people remains a lofty thought. But for U-Theatre's artistic director Liu Ruo-Yu, it has resulted in a tangible piece of work - Meeting with Bodhisattva (literally meaning "enlightened being").

The production tells the story of a warrior who goes through the six stages of the path to self-actualisation, and the fears he has to overcome along the way. It is based on the teachings of the god of wisdom, Vajrasattva.

Liu explains that she first got the idea after a 36-day meditation retreat that she attended on a small island just outside of Taiwan.
