THE National University of Singapore's Arts Fest tends to be overlooked in light of other festivals organised by theatre companies, in more accessible locations downtown. But if there's one platform to talent-spot, this is it.
With 90 per cent of the performers and programmers under 30 years old, it mashes a high-energy dynamic as well as "intellectual vibe", points out Christine Khor, director of NUS's Centre of Fine Arts. "About one in four shows are also original works, and shows are backed up with research," she adds.
The Festival has a mix of international artists as well as local talent, and now in its ninth year, there's a stronger emphasis on creating art works with commissions in dance and theatre. "Students also take up the challenges of marketing, publicity, and fundraising," she says.
