Eel Effect
Jaime Ee
It's official. Unagi rice is a trend. The latest entrant is Ichinoji Miyagawa, the first outlet outside Japan for Miyagawa Honten - a chain of unagi restaurants that started 125 years ago with its first outlet in Tsukiji, Tokyo. Located in Riverside View in Robertson Quay, Ichinoji is set to open on April 12, serving freshwater eel in three different ways: hitsumabushi, seiro mushi and donburi. The first is Nagoya style - a fiddly five-step ritual that involves eating the eel in different combinations. Seiro mushi is grilled unagi steamed in a bamboo steamer and then covered in sauce, while the classic donburi is just that - shovel unagi and rice into your mouth and enjoy. If you've been getting your fix at Man Man or Uya, add this to your list of must-tries.
