The joy of wine
Revisiting some old wines from my cellar offered some pleasant surprises.
ONE of the great pleasures of wine lies in the discovery of wines that are not only pleasant to drink but also appear to possess the potential to develop into a wine worth taking seriously. Last week looking for suitable wines to drink at a dinner of Singaporean spicy Peranakan dishes, one of the wines I chose was Barrua 2003, I G T, an Italian wine from the winery Agricola Punica. It proved to be just such a wine.
Agricola Punica is in Sardinia, the Italian island off the west coast of Italy. I was introduced to this wine by Marchese Nicolo Incisa della Rochetta, owner of Tenuta San Guido, many years ago and bought some for my cellar. As usual, especially as it was at the time very young, I tried one bottle and put the rest away to age.
