Why cry over the Japanese whisky shortage when you can have vodka instead? That seems to be the thinking behind the launch of Haku Vodka from Beam Suntory, the same folks behind Hakushu whisky.

The crystal clear spirit is made from 100 per cent Japanese white rice, using a strain once reserved only for the Japanese emperor. The rice is fermented with koji, not unlike sake, to create a mash which is then distilled through pot stills to create a rice spirit.
