Jang wins HSBC Women's Champions
The South Korean moves up to world No 5 on the Rolex Rankings after her win.
WITH a quarter of the field consisting of South Korean players, the odds were pretty good that one of the 17 from the country in a field of 63 would triumph at the end of the US$1.5 million HSBC Women's Champions tournament held last week on Sentosa Golf Club's Serapong Course.
And Ha Na Jang didn't disappoint, making her move on day two and triumphing at the end of the four-day stroke play, no cut event to finish at 19-under-par - four shots ahead of Thai Pornanong Phatlum.
The bubbly 23-year-old - who has now moved up to world No 5 on the Rolex Rankings after her win - is the third South Korean to win this event, after Jiyai Shin in 2009 and Inbee Park last year. She saved her best for last with a spectacular seven-under-par 65 that included an eagle on the par-5 18th. She celebrated with a Beyoncé-inspired jig on the 18th green.
