NEXT week will see 95 women amateur golfers teeing off in the SLGA Singapore Ladies Amateur Open Golf Championship, an event that has always attracted some of the region's top female amateur golfers.
The annual championship was first organised by the SLGA in 1982 to promote amateur golf in the Pacific region and has drawn golfers from countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. This year sees a strong field with the lowest-handicapped player being Australian Kathryn Norris +3, while 28 players are playing off a Handicap Index of 2 and below of which 14 are scratch or better.
Aside from Norris, other contenders include Isabella Leong (Hong Kong), Inez Beatrice Wanamarta (Indonesia), Loy Hee Yin and Genevieve Ling I-Ryn (Malaysia) and Smanatha Martirez (Philippines).
