Loveless and lifeless

LINDA Lovelace had her 15 minutes of fame in 1972, thanks to a 62-minute movie that remains - for better or worse - embedded in the adult consciousness and an integral part of modern America's cultural legacy. Those 15 minutes have now stretched past 40 years, and show no sign of ever running out.

Lovelace, about possibly the most famous porn star in the history of the industry, is an attempt to set the record straight on the principal characters involved in the making of Deep Throat, a movie that caused a sensation by somehow making the transformation from marginal adult entertainment into porno chic.

"How Far Does a Girl Have to Go to Untangle Her Tingle?" was the tongue-in-cheek tagline on posters promoting Deep Throat, two words that adequately describe Lovelace's specific area of sexual prowess - but even more famous in the political lexicon and in the context of the Watergate scandal just a couple of years later.
