Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo earned raves in 2018 for playing the title roles in the UK National Theatre's first-rate production of Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra. No one was all that surprised when the pair went on to become the first co-leads in over 30 years to swoop both Best Actor and Best Actress prizes at the Evening Standard Theatre awards. Helmed by hot director Simon Godwin just before he was appointed artistic director of Shakespeare Theatre Company, the opulent stage production will be screened in film format at the Esplanade this weekend. Also showing in the series are the National Theatre's 2018 production of King Lear starring Ian McKellen, as well as its much beloved show War Horse from 2014.
Antony and Cleopatra and War Horse are showing on July 27, and King Lear on July 28 at the Esplanade at various times. Tickets from Sistic.
