The annual Record Store Day (RSD) returns again on Saturday. Started in America in 2007, it has grown into a worldwide phenomenon and is celebrated on every corner of the earth except Antarctica. (According to the founders, they are working on it!)
RSD pays tribute to independent record shops by releasing special editions that can only be bought in person at those stores and not online. It coincides with the revival of vinyl and many classic or out-of-print titles are reissued on the format.
All the releases are limited editions, so they tend to sell out quickly. That has led to the vinyls being, excuse the pun, flipped and resold at sky-high prices on eBay on the very same day even though buyers at the stores are only restricted to one copy of each title.
