January 1969

Unlike other scenes from the past that don't exist anymore, this one still does. Built in 1895 on the island of Selat Jurong, the Sultan Shoal Lighthouse is one of nine that still stand today, and one of five that are still in operation. It was built to guide boats in and out of the Straits of Malacca into Singapore's Western Anchorage. And if any pirate had any ideas, he would have been easily despatched by the arsenal of loaded rifles and weapons that the lighthouse keeper had on hand.

The weapons are gone now, and so is the lighthouse keeper - it's been automated since 1984.
