History Comes Alive
A new augmented reality trail takes visitors on a tour of Singapore's past
If you see a group of people seemingly walking aimlessly with their smartphones in the air in front of the National Gallery Singapore, they're not playing Pokemon Go.
Chances are, they've stepped back in time to 1819, when a treaty was signed between Sir Stamford Raffles, Temenggong Abdul Rahman and Sultan Hussein Shah of Johor, allowing the British East India Company to set up a trading post in Singapore.
BALIKSG, a new augmented reality (AR) trail, sends visitors 'time travelling' to witness significant events in Singapore's history and to learn how people lived back then. The trail is developed by the National Heritage Board (NHB) and the National Parks Board as part of the Singapore Bicentennial Commemoration.
