Oldies hit high notes
Sting
The Last Ship
It's been a decade since Sting released his last studio album of original material but it's clear he hasn't lost his songwriting touch even after all this time. The Last Ship is a collection of songs from his forthcoming autobiographical Broadway musical of the same name, set to open next year. The traditional folk pop arrangements make for easy listening but they would probably work better on stage than just listening to it on CD. It's a bold change of musical direction that might surprise some expecting the old Sting but thankfully there are still traces of his pop sensibility in the slow-burning grooves of And Yet and It's Not The Same Moon.
