OVER 8,000 bags of blessings, or fu dais, were distributed to seniors and families in need on Saturday (Jan 27) by more than 1,300 volunteers.

Organised by Community Chest and volunteer group Heartwarmers, the event saw over 40 companies – which included Standard Chartered Singapore and Marina Bay Sands – mobilised to donate, pack and distribute the items to the recipients.

The beneficiaries, living across 21 constituencies, are service users at social service agencies supported by the Community Chest, such as Dementia Singapore and Fei Yue Community Services.

Community Chest chairman Chew Sutat said: “As part of Forward SG, (the event) is an opportunity to collectively care for others in society. We encourage more corporates to partner us so that we can uplift the lives of Singaporeans and strengthen our social compact.”

The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies Heng Swee Keat, and hosted by Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Health Masagos Zulkifli.

Themed “A Bag of Blessings, An Abundance of Hope”, the bags contained items that ranged from essential items such as rice to festive goodies.
