Singtel’s carnival for special-needs students draws record turnout
THE Singtel Carnival, held on Tuesday (Oct 24) at Singapore Expo, pulled in the highest attendance by volunteers and students since its inception in 2013.
More than 4,000 participants, including students from APSN Chaoyang School and APSN Delta Senior School, were at the fairy-tale themed event, which featured almost 60 food and games stalls.
The Singtel Carnival is a flagship initiative of the telco’s corporate philanthropy programme, the Singtel Touching Lives Fund (STLF).
Aileen Tan, who chairs the STLF and is the Singtel group’s chief people and sustainability officer, said: “We believe businesses can create a positive impact in the community by fostering a culture of inclusion.”
She added that the carnival gives the students a chance to engage with the public and acquire social skills.
The STLF, launched in 2002, provides support to schools that offer specialised education programmes for children and youth with special needs, equipping them with skills necessary for leading independent lives.
