THE Singapore Turf Club organises four major racing events every year. The Singapore Airlines International Cup (SAIC) and Krisflyer Sprint are international events, while the Longines Singapore Gold Cup and the Emirates Derby are domestic races. The SAIC, popularly known as the gem in Singapore's racing crown, was incorporated as an international event at the newly opened Kranji Racecourse in 2000, and takes place in May each year.
This year, the race will be held May 18 and the winner can expect to take home a purse of S$3 million.
The Krisflyer Sprint, launched in 2001, also sponsored by Singapore Airlines, will take place on the same day and offers S$1 million in winnings. Since 2011, The Krisflyer International Sprint has been the fourth leg of the prestigious Global Sprint Challenge Series.
