You can't ignore the signs: the Swiss luxury watch industry is getting smart. At Baselworld 2018, Hublot showcased the Big Bang Referee 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, its first ever connected timepiece.

Created more for football fans than the average tech geek, it will also be worn by referees at the upcoming World Cup tournament that will take place in Russia from June 14 to July 15. More than that, it has been created to commemorate the competition with features like kick-off alerts and score updates - expect the screen to flash "GOAL" in real-time whenever the ball finds the back of the net.

Gimmicky? Slightly, considering that once the World Cup ends, it functions no differently from your average smartwatch.
