THESE days, making a trip to Savile Row for a world-class suit worthy of the stars is not quite necessary. Instead, top tailors are making the long-haul flight to our doorstep, for the Lion City's share of the discerning Asian male shopper demographic.
Next weekend, Tom Ford's made-to-measure specialist will be in Singapore to hold private, 90-minute appointments at its Marina Bay Sands boutique. This will be a chance for Bond fans to channel their inner spies, as the brand has dressed actor Daniel Craig in the upcoming instalment of the blockbuster series, Spectre.
"I like to think the made-to-measure experience is more in line with the way men used to shop 100 years ago - you talk to the tailor for a while before picking your cloth and getting measured," says Jeffrey Chua, an intern at a venture capital firm who owns Tom Ford made-to-measure suits. "It also lets you add things such as a vest or a second pair of pants. Also if necessary, they can adjust things such as the sleeve pitch, or account for one side of your hip being higher or uneven shoulders."
