Scoring A Hattrick
THIN IS IN where the watch industry is concerned, as the Grand Prix D'Horlogerie De Genève (GPHG) gave its top 2019 honour to Audemars Piguet's Royal Oak Selfwinding Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin. The world's thinnest automatic perpetual calendar wristwatch powered by a complex movement re-engineered to integrate an elegant ultra-thin case, went home with the Aiguille d'Or Grand Prix. AP was also first in the Iconic Watch category with the Royal Oak 'Jumbo' Extra-thin; while also winning in the Complication Watch category with its new Code 11.59 Minute Repeater Supersonnerie.
The Men's Watch of the Year title went to the Voutilainen 28ti, a timepiece made by independent Finnish watchmaker Kari Voutilainen. The watch features an elegant and strong movement housed in a stylish and robust titanium case. The technically superior timepiece is the first to have a two escapement wheels configuration.
Voutilainen's Starry Night Vine also clinched the prize in the Artistic Crafts Watch category.
