Too academic by far
FAR out could be one of the ways to describe Random Dance Company's Far, a dance by celebrated British choreographer Wayne McGregor. Far is, in fact, the acronym of the book Flesh in the Age of Reason, which provided the cerebral matter for the one-hour dance.
Another way to describe Far is to call it a dancer's dance - they are the people who seem best able to appreciate the technicalities of this dance, the shapes and forms created by the dancers' bodies, and the concentrated intensity of the production.
For those whose appreciation of dance may be more cursory, Far was perhaps too far out as a very technical exercise of movement, and one that had a more interesting-sounding premise (based on the Age of Enlightenment) than what actually played out.
