Hotels and resorts are doing their bit to make tourism more eco-friendly

IF YOU INSTINCTIVELY reach for a plastic straw each time you're served a drink, you're not alone. But increasingly, it is becoming more difficult to find any, particularly when you are at a hotel.

With more attention focused on the damaging effects of single-use plastics on the environment, Resorts World Sentosa recently stopped providing plastic straws across its attractions, and at its celebrity chef restaurants. The move to go strawless will eliminate more than three million straws annually, helping to reduce marine plastic pollution.

Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts has pledged against using single-use plastics by Earth Day 2019. A spokesman says, "We are noticing guest expectations shifting towards sustainable uses of resources and finding single-use plastic alternatives. We are on target to have our elimination plan of '…
