SO this was supposed to be one of US President Donald Trump's greatest political weeks. Congressional Republicans were scheduled to release what was described as a historic plan to overhaul the US tax code.
Following a series of legislative let-downs - including a failure to replace his predecessor's signature legacy, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) or "Obamacare" - it seemed that notwithstanding some disagreements among Republicans, a tax bill embraced by President Trump could be introduced and approved by the end of October.
By the end of the week, President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were scheduled to depart for their longest foreign excursion, a 12-day trip to East Asia, that would take them to Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
