Indonesian govt consistent in implementing mining laws and regulations
WE refer to the article "Jakarta Mining Policy Shift Sparks Turmoil" (BT, March 6). The article provided neither objective nor balanced views about Indonesia's mining policy.
The headline alone is misleading, as it implies that the Indonesian government has been inconsistent in applying its policy, and failed to provide certainty for investors seeking to make foreign direct investment in the country.
The government has in fact been consistent in implementing its laws and regulations, particularly Law No 4 of 2009 on Mineral and Coal Mining. This is crucial in ensuring certainty and a conducive environment for foreign direct investment.
