Is China building up military land bases abroad?
CHINA is portraying its One Belt One Road (OBOR) as an initiative to peacefully spread economic prosperity. Now, senior officers of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) are recommending that the Chinese military should create military bases along the route, and use military force at the request of a foreign host nation or to defend Chinese interests.
It is becoming clear that the trillion-dollar OBOR is not only about generating economic wealth. It is equally about imposing Chinese military dominance.
China is already involved in developing commercial seaports in Colombo (Sri Lanka), Gwadar (Pakistan), Chittagong (Bangladesh), Maday Island (Myanmar) and Port Victoria in the Seychelles.
