Keeping the Singapore-Malaysia MRT on track
IT is good that Singapore and Malaysia agreed to a legally binding bilateral agreement to build a cross-border MRT line that will let commuters travel seamlessly between Woodlands North and Johor Baru.
Thus, it will be built whatever political changes take place on either side of the Causeway. Indeed, Singapore's fourth generation PAP leaders are likely to be at the helm by the time the project is completed.
Malaysia faces an extraordinary political situation at the moment. Much has been said about the opposition's election chances in the next general election. The confirmation of Dr Mahathir Mohamad as interim leader of Pakatan Harapan, an informal alliance of several opposition parties, is being touted as an inflexion point in their fortunes.
