ACCORDING to reports from Washington, Republican lawmakers, buoyed by their electoral successes in the mid-term elections, are considering using their power to control the purse strings - to determine whether or not the US federal budget is approved - as a legislative weapon in their political struggles with President Barack Obama in the last two years of his term.
