THERE is that point in any election campaign when one doesn't have to be studying the recent opinion poll or listening to a renowned political expert pontificating about the race, or even to wait for the official results to come out, to figure out who the winner is.

Veteran reporters who cover many election campaigns will tell you that they can always sense when all the energy suddenly flows into the likely winner's campaign and they know that it's over. It sometimes has to do with the body language of the candidates: The potential loser who usually exudes a sense of desperation. The presumptive winner tends to be cool and collected and very gracious.
