IT IS no secret that there has been growing concern in world capitals about the bluster emanating from the White House when it comes to dealing with America's adversaries as well as friends.
President Donald Trump has threatened to "totally destroy North Korea", described Iran as a "rogue state", and suggested that he would reassess US strategic commitments. The US leader's posturing will probably continue disorienting both friends and foes for the rest of his term in office.
But the White House's handling of the nuclear crisis with North Korea and its response to the recent chemical attack by the Syrian regime against civilians in the city of Douma, suggest that the current president seems to be less mercurial than he sounds and that, surprise-surprise, he can even on occasion display attributes of a cool-headed statesman - qualities not usually associated with him.
