Trump still has time to turn around his presidency
DONALD Trump heads back to Washington on Tuesday, after his 12-day Asia tour. His return coincides with the first anniversary of his remarkable Nov 8, 2016 election victory, yet multiple polls now show him to be the most unpopular White House incumbent of the modern political era.
With his presidency at a highly uncertain point, he has achieved little so far of what he said he would do during the campaign, and his poll ratings are hovering at or below 40 per cent. Remarkably, he has enjoyed no sustained political success or honeymoon since January, despite the fact that Republicans enjoyed a "clean sweep" of last November's federal elections, securing majorities in Congress too.
While there is still time for him to potentially turn around his presidency, the partisan animosity and wider political challenges now facing him means he is on the back foot.
