Malaysia's top auditor wants tax collection system beefed up

MALAYSIA'S Auditor-General (AG) has called for stronger enforcement of the collection of real property gains tax (RPGT) by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB), and for its staff to be more efficiently deployed.

Although the country's top auditor found the IRB's management of tax to be satisfactory overall, he said the system had weaknesses, such as long delays in the processing of tax forms - with some taking as long as 852 days.

The AG, in recommendations contained in the third series of his report for 2013, also suggested that tax evaders be barred from leaving the country and that the taxman take civil act…
