PROPERTY developer GuocoLand has signed a multi-year contract with gym operator Virgin Active for a 31,000 sq ft fitness centre at the Tanjong Pagar Centre mixed-use development next to Tanjong Pagar MRT, it said in a press release on Wednesday.

The fitness centre will be on the sixth floor of Guoco Tower, a Grade A office tower part of the integrated project, and will be open by mid-2016 when the development is completed.

Christian Mason, managing director for South-east Asia at Virgin Active, said in a statement that this is its second outlet in Singapore.

The gym will include a S$500,000 high altitude training studio that will simulate altitudes of up to 3,000 metres, and a 200 sq m exercise studio that can accommodate up to 50 people. Both these studios will be the largest among Virgin Active's gyms in Asia, GuocoLand added.

Apart from Guoco Tower, the integrated development will have retail and residential components.
