Building industry revamps image

THE Singapore Contractors Association Ltd's (SCAL) president, Kenneth Loo, remains hopeful that the policies which have hit all manpower-reliant industries - particularly the construction industry - hard will be moderated, as contractors contend with sluggish demand on one hand and increasing cost on the other.

While there has been significant ramp-up in public sector projects, most local contractors operate within the building sector rather than the infrastructure sector, says Mr Loo, who was elected president of the SCAL Council of Management for the 2015-2017 term.

While SCAL represents all sectors of the industry, its membership base of 3,000 is made up mostly of SMEs.
