Why SMEs need data protection

SMEs should set a yearly reminder to safely destroy personal data if there is no legal or business purpose in retaining it. Hard copies should be shredded and special software can be used to overwrite files containing personal data.

THE Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) came into full force two years ago, and yet many small and medium enterprise (SME) owners lack full understanding of how the PDPA applies to them and the importance of complying.
