Europe: Stock markets drop at open
[LONDON] Europe's main stock markets sank at the start of trading on Thursday, dented by gloomy earnings news from British engine maker Rolls-Royce and German energy giant RWE.
London's benchmark FTSE 100 index fell 0.19 per cent to stand at 6,284.99 points compared with Wednesday's close, with Rolls-Royce shares slumping by about a fifth in value after another grim profits warning.
In the eurozone, Frankfurt's DAX 30 index dipped 0.11 per cent to 10,844.38 points, hurt by news of falling nine-month profits at RWE.
The Paris CAC 40 meanwhile shed 0.23 per cent to stand at 4,941.26 points.
