Europe: Stock markets slip at open

[LONDON] European stock markets weakened at the start of trading Thursday, with London's benchmark FTSE 100 index losing 0.5 per cent at 6,172.81 points.
Frankfurt's DAX 30 index also fell about 0.5 per cent to 9,997.94 and the Paris CAC 40 shed 0.6 per cent to 4,416.84 points compared with Wednesday's close.
