Europe: Stocks rebound at open

[LONDON] Europe's main stock markets staged a modest rebound at the open on Wednesday, with London's FTSE 100 index up 0.3 per cent to 6,661.85 points.

In the eurozone, Frankfurt's DAX 30 added almost 0.1 per cent to 10,150.13 points and the Paris CAC 40 rose 0.4 per cent to 4,346.31.

The region's markets had retreated Tuesday on fears over banks, ultra-low oil prices and disappointment over Japan's vast stimulus, dealers said.

Asian stocks however tumbled for a second day Wednesday, extending the global retreat with Tokyo taking a hit from a strong yen after Japan's economy-boosting stimulus programme fell flat with investors.
