[LONDON] Europe's main stock markets dipped at the open on Wednesday, the eve of a hectic news day that will include a general election in Britain.

In initial trade, London's benchmark FTSE 100 index of major blue-chip firms dropped 0.1 per cent to 7,515.92 points compared with the closing level on Tuesday.

In the eurozone, the Paris CAC 40 also declined 0.1 per cent to 5,261.42 points, while Frankfurt's DAX 30 index shed 0.2 per cent to 12,659.97.

Thursday sees Britain voting in a general election, the European Central Bank's policy meeting and - in what could be the biggest market-mover - sacked FBI boss James Comey's testimony on President Donald Trump's campaign links to Russia.
