Hong Kong, Shanghai: Stocks fall further after open

[HONG KONG] Hong Kong stocks extended this week's losses in the first few minutes of trade Wednesday following a sharp sell-off in US and European equities as energy firms were hit by falling oil prices.
The Hang Seng Index shed 0.16 per cent, or 37.32 points, to 23,178.44.
And in Shanghai the benchmark composite index lost 0.48 per cent, or 14.61 points, to 3,008.90, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, dropped 0.45 per cent, or 9.01 points, to 1,980.32.
