US STOCKS rose slightly last week, treading water ahead of the Federal Reserve's mid December meeting.

This week, stocks are likely to remain near the flat line for the week and the year, if jobs and early holiday sales reports are anywhere close to the Fed's expectations.

"Consumer incomes are growing strongly, but spending growth is lagging," said Gus Faucher, senior economist at bank PNC, in a note to clients. "Job growth has averaged better than 200,000 per month so far in 2015, and the labour market continues to tighten, pushing up wages."
