Shanghai, Hong Kong: Stocks sink at open

[HONG KONG] Shares in Shanghai and Hong Kong plunged soon after opening Thursday, extending losses in New York and Europe as investors fret over the state of the Chinese economy.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index fell 1.55 per cent, or 52.18 points, to 3,309.66, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, slid 1.84 per cent, or 39.30 points, to 2,094.66.
And the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong fell 0.99 per cent, or 208.21 points, to 20,772.6.
