Singapore shares close with gentle gain

THE Straits Times Index on Tuesday closed up 9.24 points at 2,850.43, after a gentle swing to a gain in late afternoon, led by the Singapore banks and telcos.
This was amid low volume of 1.3 billion units worth S$735 million, with losers exceeding gainers in the Singapore market at 184 to 170.
