Singapore shares open 12.35 points higher on Thursday

SINGAPORE stocks rose early on Thursday in sympathy with US overnight gains, with the Straits Times Index adding 0.43 per cent or 12.35 points to 2,870.36.

Gainers outnumbered losers 92 to 39, or about seven up for every three down, after 122.6 million shares worth S$56.3 million had changed hands.

Oil and gas names rose after the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries agreed to cut output for the first time in eight years.

Keppel Corp rose 2.1 per cent or 11 Singapore cents to S$5.33, while Sembcorp Industries increased by 3.2 per cent or eigh Singapore cents to S$2.61. Ezra Holdings gained 6.8 per cent or 0.4 Singapore cent to 6.3 Singapore cents, and Ezion Holdings traded at 29 Singapore cents after rising 5.5 per cent or 1.5 Singapore cents.
